This single is another entry in our series of noir-inspired songs that featured in dozens of independent playlists and online radio stations. In a departure from our previous, more personal songs, When the Lights Are Out is an exploration of film noir taken literally—the lyrics deal with a Hollywood actor experiencing an identity crisis. Combining faster and slower parts, it’s dominated by melodic guitar riffs, intense rhythm section and a mixture of clean vocals and growling.
lyrics
[1]
You know, my faces are many
But which one is the true one? or is there one at all?
I dream of home with no mirrors in it
I think i burned it long ago
You think you know me
Like everyone you've seen my mask
Few have ever tried to peek behind it
No reason why they must
[pre-ch]
It feels just like home
Back home again
[ch]
Just like heaven
Only all the lights are out
My paper wings
Touch leaden clouds
[2]
Cut! lights, camera, action!
I gotta run till i run out of space
Is the mask too tight on my skin?
Or is it my own face?
[pre-ch]
It feels just like home
Back home again
[ch]
Just like heaven
Only all the lights are out
My paper wings
Touch leaden clouds
Almost like hell
Although the service is nice
And all drinks
Are on the house
***
Just like heaven
Only all the lights are out
My paper wings
Touch leaden clouds
Almost like hell
Although the service is nice
And all drinks
Are on the house
[br]
This place feels almost like home
A little off, but it'll do
If i just pretend a bit
After all that's what i do
